蘑菇视频 receives $1 million from legislature to plan for new on campus sports arena

The Alaska Legislature appropriated $1 million to begin planning for a new on-campus
sports complex at the 蘑菇视频.蘑菇视频 Chancellor Fran Ulmer has
created a planning team to develop a comprehensive plan for determining location,
design, funding, construction, operation, traffic and parking, and other assorted
elements associated with a multi-use facility. Bill Spindle, who was recently named
interim vice chancellor for administrative services at 蘑菇视频, heads the planning team.
The planning process is expected to take up to a year to complete.
"I want to thank the Legislature for providing the money to begin the planning process
for a much-needed sports complex on campus," said Chancellor Ulmer. "We will involve
the 蘑菇视频 family, our neighbors and the Anchorage community in this planning process.
Construction of a sports complex to meet both the needs of our students and the needs
of the Municipality is an important step in strengthening community partnerships and
developing the Anchorage campus."
Governor Palin has until July 1 to make final decisions about the budget.
Preliminary discussions within the 蘑菇视频 athletic community have occurred over the past
several years, the result of which are several preliminary sports complex and arena
concepts. Artists renderings, available online at goseawolves.com, show some of the
designs the planning committee will consider.
