Why Study Russian at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ?

Russia is Alaska’s neighbor, and opportunities to use Russian and to learn about Russian culture abound at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ. Many students from Russia study at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ, and you can hear Russian being spoken on a daily basis. Moreover, the Russian community in Anchorage is vibrant and active. The Anchorage School District boasts the first ever Russian language immersion program in an American elementary school, and Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ, Anchorage, and the State of Alaska maintain important partnerships with Russian universities and organizations, especially in the Russian Far East. Highly qualified faculty members across the university teach courses with a Russia focus.

The Department of Languages is only able to offer lower division Russian courses at this time.

RUSS A101 Elementary Russian I 4 Credits

Introductory course for students with no previous knowledge of the Russian language. Develops listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Russian for effective communication at the elementary level. Students gain understanding of basic cross-cultural perspectives. Course conducted in Russian.

RUSS A102 Elementary Russian II 4 Credits

Continuation of introductory course. Further develops elementary listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Russian for effective communication. Enhances appreciation of cross-cultural perspectives. Course conducted in Russian.

Prerequisites: RUSS A101.
