Advancing research, education, and community partnerships to strengthen Alaska鈥檚 response to substance use and meet Alaska鈥檚 needs.

Established by the University of Alaska Board of Regents in 1972, the Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies (CAAS) leads statewide efforts to understand and address substance use and related needs.

Rooted in Alaska鈥檚 unique cultural, social, and geographic contexts, CAAS provides community-driven research and evaluation, technical assistance, academic education, and workforce development support that strengthen prevention, treatment, recovery, and policy responses. Our work is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Alaska鈥檚 individuals, families, organizations, and communities.

CAAS partners with public agencies, health systems, tribal organizations, and community-based programs to develop evidence-informed approaches that are responsive to local priorities and needs. Through these collaborations, we aim to build a skilled and sustainable behavioral health workforce and reduce the harms associated with substance use across the state.
