Faculty Evaluation Process Dates

Below are all the dates relating to the evaluation of 4th year comprehensive, tenure, promotion, and post-tenure files sorted by steps (some steps you will skip depending on the type of review you are undergoing). More extensive explanations of the process are available in the (CBA) section 9.2, and if you are a visual learner there is also a flowchart with the dates and a flowchart for extended campus faculty.

 

UNAC Evaluation Process

If one of the dates below falls on a Saturday or Sunday, it shall be treated as falling on the following Monday.

Step 1: External Review

External reviews are only required for promotion and tenure files. If you are not submitting a promotion and/or tenure file, you can skip this step. 

  • End of contract: Faculty member notifies Dean’s or Campus Director’s office in writing of the intent to stand and provides an updated CV and the names and contact information for two external reviewers
  • June 30: The Dean/Director distributes CV to external reviewers 
  • Sept. 1: External reviewers submit their reviews
  • Sept. 8: The Dean/Director gives external reviews to faculty member 

Step 2: Peer Review Committee

4th year, promotion, tenure, and post-tenure reviews all go through this step. 

  • Sept. 12: Evaluation file is due from faculty member, submitted to ePortfolio (see and the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ FEPPs for list of required documents) 
  • Sept. 15: Dean submits file to the school/college Peer Review Committee 
  • Oct. 15: Peer Review Committee gives recommendation to faculty member and Dean or designee
  • Oct. 22: Faculty response is due 

Step 3: Dean/Director Review

4th year, promotion, tenure, and post-tenure reviews all go through this step. Post-tenure review files end after Step 3 if the peer review and Dean’s/Director's review are both satisfactory.

  • For Community Campus faculty, the Campus Director or Designee submits evaluation of the file and recommendation to the Dean. The deadline for this review is agreed upon with the Dean.  
  • Dec. 20: Dean/Designee submits evaluation of the file and recommendation to the faculty member and to the Provost
  • Jan. 3: Faculty response is due

Step 4: MAU Peer Review Committee (UFEC)

4th year, promotion, and tenure reviews all go through this step. Post-tenure reviews only go through this step if the peer review committee's (Step 2) or Dean’s review (Step 3) is not satisfactory. 

  • Jan. 3: Provost transmits file to the MAU Peer Review Committee (the UFEC)
  • Feb. 20: MAU Peer Review Committee (the UFEC) submits the evaluation of the file and recommendation to the faculty member and to the Provost
  • Feb. 26: Faculty response due

Step 5: Provost Review

4th year, promotion, and tenure reviews all go through this step. Post-tenure reviews only go through this step if the peer review committee's (Step 2) or Dean’s review (Step 3) is not satisfactory. 

  • March 30: Provost submits file evaluation and recommendation to the faculty member and to the Chancellor
  • April 5: Faculty response due

Step 6: Chancellor Review

Promotion and tenure reviews will be reviewed by the chancellor. 4th year and post-tenure reviews proceed to the chancellor only at the written request of the bargaining unit faculty member.

  • May 1: Chancellor's decision is sent out to faculty
